In French, the double L is sometimes pronounced like an L, and other times like a Y. How do you know when to pronounce it each way? This lesson explains the general rules and the inevitable exceptions :)
Up until now I haven't really used the blog part of my Weebly site because I used to use Blogspot during college ( here's an online portfolio blog I did as an assignment for a Linguistics class and an Education course: http://portfolio-nicole.blogspot.ca/ and http://narration-nicole.blogspot.ca/ are slightly different from each other. Some content will repeat, some won't.)
DuoLingo ( http://duolingo.com/ ) seems great so far! I could probably use this as a good evaluation tool, too. I can't seem to get into the "levels" part - looks like I've submitted my email for "early access" but that access hasn't been granted to me yet because I haven't gotten a confirmation email. Amazing what's out there on the internet, non? Crazy to think that fifteen/twenty years ago the internet was practically non-existant. I think I have a "bookmarks" list of French learning resources that's easily 400 links long. Takes time to sift through, that's for sure, so communicative resources (the ones that actually involve listening & speaking) are my priority. I have a YouTube Channel too, and I'm constantly adding to it: http://www.youtube.com/mmejarvis . Listening to French music in the car is a great way to just keep an immersion environment. You could use something like http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ to convert the videos to music files, but I encourage you to purchase songs on iTunes (There's a Francophone music option in ITunes so you can see what's currently popular). I also often stream French radio stations through iTunes. I have a great idea. You could start a Facebook group for your IB French 11 class. You guys could share what part of the textbook you're working on and chat about what you've discovered, what is tough, etc. It would probably help people keep making progress, and if anyone found a neat link such as DuoLingo you could easily share it. I have this kind of a group with the 18 other Teachers I had in my French module during our B.Ed and it's super convenient. I also intend to ask Mme Charette if the French Department owns Rosetta Stone. And it would be neat for you to do DELF stuff as well so you'd be prepared to take the A.2 test and get an internationally recognized French level on your resume. If only there were 40 hours in a day... cheers, Mlle J |
